Associate Permaculture Design Position
Porvenir Design, cedula juridica #3-102-747-347, is a landscape design firm that specializes in helping clients put their land to productive work by building soil, capturing water and growing food. Porvenir operates primarily in Costa Rica and is owned by Sam Kenworthy and Scott Gallant. The business is seeking a part time associate to provide technical land planning, design, and implementation oversight for clients around the country.
As Porvenir Design grows and continues to attract more clients there is a distinct need for the business to increase its capacity. Porvenir Design seeks to provide mentorship and training for an associate who can then help the business continue to meet growing client needs.
This position is an opportunity for someone with ample experience in the fields of agroforestry, agroecology, permaculture design, or conservation to gain deep experience in offering consultation and technical assistance to projects all around the country of Costa Rica. The position will require working directly with the firm’s principal designers to gain experience on existing projects before being asked to take on projects independently. This position is a part time position with possibility for full time employment in the long term.
The exact details of the position will be co-created with candidates based on their specific skill sets, experience levels, financial needs, and availability.
Compensation
Base salary of $500 per month for a trial period of 3 months. If the trial period goes well then the contract will be extended for an additional 9 months, for a total of a 1 year contract.

Requirements
Legal working status in Costa Rica, without exception; a strong preference will be given to Costa Rican nationals.
A strong desire and ability to do productive landscape design work as a livelihood.
English language high proficiency in reading, communication and writing.
Spanish language fluency in reading, communication and writing.
Previous experience in related fields such as agroforestry, permaculture design, landscaping, topography, organic farming, etc.
Excellent communication skills. Porvenir maintains a timely communicative approach with clients and our team through in person meetings, phone calls, WhatsApp, and email. The ability to express one’s personal needs is an important aspect of maintaining our balancing work culture.
Proficiency in computer skills/programs MS Office, Gmail, and Google Docs.
Additional skills such as the following are useful to note: Adobe Suite, GIS, drafting/drawing/art/graphic design, conflict resolution and facilitation training, nonviolent communication training, food processing/preservation/cooking, social media/website/marketing, photography, videography Expectations.
60 hours per month; projects and deliverables are objective based.
The ability to regularly join the owners on project visits around the country at irregular and inconvenient times.
Regular and punctual communication with the owners and clients.
Contributing to administrative duties such as photo editing/organizing, marketing, etc.
The position will train with the Porvenir Design owners before beginning to take on independent projects around the country
